Learning how to control a camera...
The photos still need a bit of sorting out to make sure they're the right
photos. Some of the photos are cropped.

Near focus
Only the nearest cup is in focus.

Near-middle focus
Both the cups are in focus. This one was hard to take.

Middle focus
Only the further cup is in focus. To get a narrow depth of field a small
aperture (high f number) was used along with and a high zoom.

Aperture: f8.
Focal length: 17.5mm.
Middle-far focus
Both the furthest cup and the plant are in focus.

Far focus
Only the plant in the background is in focus.

All in focus
Everything is in focus. A small aperture was used in combination with
a wide angle on the zoom.

Shutter speed: 1/2 second.
Aperture: f7.1.
Focal length: 7.1mm (maximum wide angle).
Slow shutter speed
A slow shutter speed was used to capture wind movement of the plant's
leaves.

Shutter speed: 1/4 second.
Aperture: f4.9 (as wide open as the lens can do at that zoom).
Fast shutter speed

Shutter speed: 1/30 second (which isn't actually very fast, but was still
fast enough).
Aperture: f4.9 (as wide open as the lens can do at that zoom).
Flash
The near cup and the stool it is sitting on are well lit, but objects
further away are dimly lit. The top of the stool also cast an obvious
shadow on the table cloth behind it. Because of the wide aperture used
only the front glass and stool are in focus.

Shutter speed: 1/60 second (the normal flash sync speed).
Aperture: f2.8.
Overexposed
Too much light. Even though a small aperture was used, the extremely
slow shutter speed allowed an excessive amount of light into the camera.

Shutter speed: 4 seconds.
Aperture: f8.
Underexposed
Too little light.

Shutter speed: 1/1500 second
Aperture: f7.1.
Outdoor exposure while shooting indoors
The bamboo plants outside are correctly exposed, while everything inside
is too dim. This shows how different lighting can be indoors compared
with outdoors.

Shutter speed: 1/80 second.
Aperture: f2.8.
